Open Spaces/Green Places
Tour
Chicago Cultural Center,
78 E. Washington
Join the Southeast Environmental
Task Force and Friends of the Parks on a tour of the vast open spaces of
Chicago's southeast side. Experience lakes, Chicago's "other river- the Calumet"
streams, ponds, marshes; a man-made waterfall; a world-class championship golf
course built atop a garbage dump; and the tranquil preserve surrounded on three
sides by landfills, where an American bald eagle pair have nested, and are
raising their young. Visit the nearly 600 acres of marshes and green space that
the Chicago Park District has recently acquired. Learn the plans for these
special places, and plans for the Ford/Calumet Environmental Center. Share in
the excitement of the developing Millennium Reserve plans slated for this unique
landscape within the city. Bus tour originates and ends at the Chicago
Cultural Center (Randolph & Michigan Aves.). Cost: $40, includes lunch.
Space is limited. To register, call 773-646-0436.
