Prayer Vigil for Roland Burris at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church

We, at the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council, were able to witness tonight at 6:30 p.m. a Prayer Vigil at the New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church at 77Th and Cottage Grove Avenue, attended by Rep. Bobby Rush (D-1st) and Rep. Danny Davis (D-3rd) as well as Alderwoman Freddrema M. Lyle (6th Ward), all to wish for the certification from Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and seating of United States Senator, former Illinois Attorney General and Chatham resident Roland Burris. Mr. Burris and his wife addressed the congregation with the throes of the local media from Channels 2, 5, 7, 9 and CLTV on cable, as well as Univision and Fox. Mr. Burris stated that the "appointment was legal" and that all the Senate leadership needs to do is "to follow the law." He further made it clear that there is no precedent where an edict of a Secretary of State has ever usurped the constitutional authority of a Governor.
