Annual Back-To-School Book Bag and School Supply Giveaway through National Reclaim Our Youth Campaign
This year has been extremely challenging for many of our youth in
Chicago. Fifty-four public schools were closed or consolidated, while family
poverty rates and community violence continue to rise. At least 50% of the
communities where students of color live have an unemployment rate above 30%.
Many parents are facing extreme difficulties in providing the resources
necessary for their children to enter school prepared to succeed. For years we
have known that when sufficient resources are made available, high quality
nutrition offered, a safe and stimulating learning environment are provided all
students can succeed at high-levels. We also know that students who have proper
supplies have an edge when it comes to learning and that these students
communicate a sense of investment in their own education.
Therefore, we invite you to support our National Reclaim Our Youth Campaign through our Annual Back-To-School Rally with your donation of items (list enclosed) or their cash value. These items will be given directly to the growing population of underserved students who may be homeless students, students whose families receive some form of public assistance, and students whose parents are incarcerated.
PUSH Excel’s Annual Back-To-School Book Bag and School Supply Giveaway Rally, is Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the National Headquarters, 930 East 50th Street, Chicago, Illinois. Please indicate your level of support on the attached form and return to me via email at revjwilson@rainbowpush.org or by mail to Reverend Dr. Janette C. Good news from the state capitol
As the CUB guy who fights for
you in Springfield, I’ve got some good news. Thanks to 1,100 messages you sent
to Illinois legislators, CUB helped win legislation aimed at lowering our power
bills.
