Yemanjà known throughout the Diaspora as the Goddess of freshwater lakes. She is the essence of womanhood, and the protector of children. Join us at the DuSable Museum for Afoxe’ a carnival tradition of Bahia Brazil which expresses African identity through singing, drumming and dancing with Guest Lecturer Mr.Kevin Davison; the Exhibitions Designer. Najwa Dance Corps will bring joyous, fascinating life to the African-Brazilian culture through dance; Gingarte Capoeira Chicago, lively show and demonstrations of capoeira; performance artist; Sister Iya Adesanya –Kerr’s rendition of Yemanja’ through storytelling; a sample taste of Sinha’ Delicious Brazilian Cuisine; and a Positive- Wishes White Balloon Release!
