Holiday Shootings Hit East Chatham, Park Manor Neighborhoods

The most recent homicide occurred at 5:06 a.m. Monday morning, when DeShawn McNeil, 35, was found dead in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood after being shot in the chest.

McNeil, of Madison, Wis., was pronounced dead at 10:53 a.m. at Jackson Park Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

  • About 9:15 p.m. Sunday night, police said a 17-year-old boy was shot in the 7400 block of South Vernon Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood. Police found the teen with two gunshot wounds to his left leg. He was taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center. Preliminary reports said the boy was walking down the street when he heard shots and felt pain in his legs.
