At any given time, Municipal Depositories hold up to $500 million to $1 billion taxpayer dollars. Often, these banks are not held to a higher standard on how often they invest back into the neighborhoods they are located in.

In June, Treasurer Summers introduced the Municipal Depository Ordinance to the Chicago City Council. Under the proposal, the Treasurer's Office will be able to publicly disclose how much and often local banks holding taxpayer money are investing into their local communities and hold them to a higher standard.

Show your support! If you think this ordinance is good for your neighborhood and small businesses, please contact your alderman and let them know that you want to see it pass with their support. Feel free to write a letter, make a phone call, or set up a meeting. If you'd like more information, email city.treasurer@cityofchicago.org or call 312-744-3356 and ask for Dean.
