Dear
Maryellen,
As you may know,
our newest permanent exhibition, Freedom, Resistance, and the Journey
Toward Equality, opens to the public on Friday August 28, 2015. It will
more than 200 objects from the Museums collection that help tell the unique
stories of African American History from the horrors of the Middle Passage and
Enslavement to the triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement and the election of our
nations first African American President.
Several of the
artifacts slated for display, like this Black Panthers Headquarters Door and
Black Panthers Free Breakfast sign are still in need of conservation before
being added to this new installation. These artifacts are some of the most
iconic of the Black Panther Party in Chicago and the role of the Black Power
Movement to advance the cause of Black self-determination, justice and
equality.
Without
conservation, these pieces of living history are at-risk of continued
deterioration, relegated to the Museums dark storage rooms, and lost forever to
the public eye.
This is where you
come inby donating to the Museums Conservation Fund you are
helping to preserve the past for future generations. Objects just like these
arent just important to this exhibition but are constant reminders of the truths
of our historical record.
Dont let these
amazing objects linger in the dark. By giving to the Conservation Fund you will help
to open the door and shed a little light on these pieces of living history. The
DuSable Museum of African American History is a 501(c)(3) organization and your
gift is 100% tax deductible.
Thank you in
advance for your support and Long Live History!
Tiffany
