As an effort to keep you in the loop regarding recent developments from
Cook County and the Office of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle relating to
violence reduction and community stabilization efforts, please note the following:
LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE:
Strengthened the Cook County Assault Weapons Ban
Passed the toughest gun child-safety ordinance in Illinois
Passed a tax on every gun sold in Cook County
Passed a resolution urging state legislators to pass common sense gun control laws
Passed an ordinance requiring individuals to report any gun being lost, stolen or transferred in
Cook County
Planning a straw purchasing public education campaign
FUNDING TO SUPPORT VIOLENCE REDUCTION AND RECIDIVISM REDUCTION EFFORTS:
Awarded $400,000 in recidivism reduction grants
Formed the Violence Prevention, Intervention and Reduction Advisory Committee and, through its
efforts, awarded $1.9 million in violence prevention grants
INITIATIVES TO REDUCE THE JAIL POPULATION AND SUPPORT RETURNING CITIZENS, WHILE PRESERVING PUBLIC

The Bond Court interview space has been renovated to provide more privacy, more space, and more
humane conditions for defendants to speak with their Public Defenders and Pre-Trial Services staff
before bond court
