DuSable Museums Missing Pages Lecture Series brings to light key people, moments and aspects from the African and African American experience to a wider audience. Unfortunately, too often, the impact and contributions of people of African heritage have been omitted, repressed or underrepresented due to the historical lack of appreciation for African people and their culture. DuSable Museums annual Missing Pages Lecture Series brings experts, scholars and firsthand accounts to reintroduce this history to provide a more complete telling of history.
Presenting research from his book Children of Fire: A History of African Americans, University of Chicago professor Thomas C. Holt constructs an interlocking historical chain of the lives of historical figures such as, Olaudah Equiano (17451797), Richard Allen (17611831), Frederick Douglass (18181895), and W.E.B. Du Bois (18681963). Holt connects these men through their correspondingly unique lives, and how their individual trajectories reveal a more complex account of the African-American experience than typically discussed.
