Do you think all of the Chatham restaurants and grocery stores should have salad bars to combat obesity in our community. Leave your comments on the comment line.
While I like "Fresh Prepared". I would have to say that the prepared salads that the chain restaurants offer are basically fresh and fresh salads can be purchased at the deli counter at the major chain grocery stores. The salads are prepared daily either on or off premise. I'm not for salad bars because as we have seen with a number of restaurants in our community(Soul Vegetarian, Cap't Hard Times, etc) they have problems practicing basic sanitation and have been cited and some cases closed. Its puzzuling that this is happening when we are graduating record number of culinary students and have an abundance of culinary programs where sanitation is taught.
For once worlee is right...remember this moment it comes as a shock...it really is a shame that the younger generation has yet to learn of the imperative about cleanliness, especially at home and in public...certainly for salad bars...a needed amenities for food service and delivery in Chatham.

Salad bars are good when appropriate & the restaurant wants to.
But There are other ways of offering alternatives.
One deli i know offers a baggie of baby carrots as an option instead of fries or chips.
It's up to the store...but really up to us to go there and eat and ask for better choices.
