Make the New Library be just like the Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch

We, at the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council, feel that all residents, the Alderwoman, the Honorable Freddremma Lyle (6Th), should back a proposal to make the new Whitney Young Branch at 7901 South Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to be a two-story replica with larger square footage of the Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch building with 30 computers for the children on the first floor and 30 computers for the adults on the second floor with multiple access points (antennae) and powered tables for Wi-Fi, and a reading room and meeting room for adults and a dedicated classroom with laboratory for the children.

SPECIAL REPORT: The Future of Chatham

We, at the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council, think that the direction of the community should go in the way of development, i.e., creating and re-creating a more suburban-type lifestyle for the residents. This would include an innovation-based, research and development(R&D)-based, idea-based, knowledge-based, and industrial-based (in high-technology) area for Chatham. Remember even former Mayor Jane Byrne said the future of Chicago would have to be high-tech. It could start with the new construction of the Whitney Young branch of the Chicago Public Library at 7901 S. King Dr. like that of the Bucktown Wicker Park branch that was constructed creating new jobs:

It can be Chatham's new information and high-tech hub. Let's get this done. It's be great to have the skylight reading room overhanging 79th Street for the great views anyway!

Chatham Really Wants Its New Library to Mirror Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch and Nothing Less!!!

We, at the Chatham Avalon Park Community Council, and all residents of Chatham, known widely as Chathamites, want and will demand nothing less for its community on the eve of the probable selection of the city for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games for all the huge throngs of incoming journalists and tourists soon to be looking for an all-new information hub off the beaten path of the Olympic venues. At 15,500 square feet, the two-story full-service Bucktown-Wicker Park-style design for a new Whitney Young Branch will expand and enhance library services in a thriving residential, school and business community, which is exactly what Chatham is today. And so should our new library branch be "Olympic"-ready as well. We urge all Chatham residents to be vigilant for a Public Buildings Commission of Chicago Board of Directors Meeting, a public meeting on November 10, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. when this library plan will be presented, and to attend in large numbers.

It is now in the planning and land acquisition phase. No date has yet been set for demolition of the existing facility or groundbreaking for a new one. The Facility Committee of the Chicago Public Library will be holding its April monthly meeting to discuss this and other relevant and germane topics about the new construction, most likely to be a Bucktown-Wicker Park replica, at the Whitney Young Branch on April 14, 2010 at 10:30 A.M.
