"Juneteenth Event" Saturday, June 17, 2017
Grand Crossing Park Neighborhood Network
"...What YOU can do for YOUR Neighborhood"
You probably think our Juneteenth planning is a done deal and everything is wrapped up by now. Please know we are experiencing the same drag in responses as always. We need for everyone planning to participate to speak up and let us know your intentions on attendance, donation or volunteer duties. This is vital as we're trying not to waste time and resources. Please help us out.
Our yearly gathering means much to the community dynamic on the reduction of violence and the important relationship building attached to it. Your response, participation or support is a dire need. WE NEED YOU is the best way to sum it up. So, whatever your decision simply communicate, please.
We have a 'bring something tasty' pot luck cooperative. Each one bring some and settle in and stay awhile.
Initial provisions
Our 2017 gathering is moving along with only amodestresponse. Our planning committee met on Tuesday. The only confirmed provisions at this time are:
- One water melon
- 2 case of water
- 2 bags of ice
- Music by the Sun ensemble
- large tent
- 5 canopies
- 4 tables
- Presentation on Emancipation Proclamation
- Flags and streamers
- Table covers
Still needed
- Again, what we need are respectful responses from those who have yet to respond.A grillThat's really the main thing which makes everything else go smoothly.
- Driver/hosts who can help guide the event to an effective outcome.
- Ride share operation.
- Flatware items - napkins, utensils
- Donations for incidental purchases
- Set up and take down laborers
- Emcee duties
- Coordinator
- Written/printed program
- Grill
- Food including: Cakes, Popcorn, Corn on cobb, beans, salad, Hot dogs, burgers & BBQ meats, breads m& buns, condiments etc.
Reminder
- This is a rain or shine event. If it rains we have the tent/canopies for everyone to fit under comfortably. It could possibly be an even betterpicnicunder the canopies, which creates a cozy togetherness!
- Everyone needs to bring a chair, or indicate to us if they are unable to for whatever reason.
Also
- Very few banners have been registered, nor inquired upon. Based on OUR stated strategy for 2017, and beyond, we have strongly suggested groups, churches, schools and businesses have banners or pennants made which will be used to represent the variety of neighborhood groups in media press conferences, conventions and other collaborative venues in the future. This to show the increasing grassroots strength of our area. It's a must!
Remember
- We are building neighborhood capacity, collaborative partnerships and long term neighborhood relationships. One of the best things one can do is bring a spirited, cooperative attitude.
- It's going to be a beautiful day for grassroots fellowship!
